CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi community is remembering Senior Officer Vicente Ortiz Jr. on the one-year anniversary of his death.

Ortiz, who served the Corpus Christi Police Department for 15 years, was the 17th officer from the department to be killed in the line of duty.

On May 21, 2024, Ortiz was escorting a funeral procession on his police motorcycle when he was struck by a vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries ten days later.

“May God find peace for Vince, his family and the entire CCPD family during this difficult time,” said a statement from the department.

Ortiz is survived by his wife and two children. The community is asked to keep Ortiz’s family in their thoughts and prayers as they mark this solemn occasion.
